After getting an e-mail of all my neighbour's updates, I felt a little bad for not blogging for a while. I guess I'll call it a brief hiatus. Since school started last month, I've been inundated with a lot of homework and exams. I started reading the Time Traveller's Wife two months ago before the semester started and it was a little difficult to finish the reading the novel nows as I have to read about microbes and the physiology of the human body.
I did have time to knit however.
Sadly, no projects were finished.
It's been a crazy whirlwind of a month and trying to catch up on life when I hole myself up in my office trying to do homework is hard.
Just for a moment, I'm going to stand on my soap box and complain about a so-called friend. I guess I can't really call her a friend since she's the wife of my Mike's co-worker. I wondered how she can be so hard-headed and not even think it. She's always right and everyone is always wrong. She once told us that New York is the best place to live in, but she's only visited there for a couple of days. She hadn't lived there nor even visited for a week. She says a person can't be a Registered Nurse when this person already an LVN. The school even said that the LVN program counts as one year of the RN program...but the school is wrong. She's so closed-minded... We tried to watch the current Harry Potter movie on IMAX and unfortunately, it's $18.00. She complained about it before we even paid for the tickets. she complained that she won't understand the plot. She complained that she was dizzy because of the widescreen through out the movie. I'm glad she didn't go dim-sum with us the next day (we would have heard complaints again).
I talked to Mike about her and told him that its a hard to be friends with her. I love to experience and try new things and she isn't. He told me that he and Damon were trying to get us together as she has no friends. I told him that it would be really hard for me to be friends with her. There's no compromise. It's her way or the highway. Call me selfish, but I'd hate to miss out on a lot of things that I would normally try if I'm not friends with her. Life's to short to be close-minded and rigid.
I'm off the soapbox now.
Anyhow....I know this is a much personal blog than what I write mostly... but I feel I should air out my frustrations....and thanks for listening.
I'm really excited about quite a few things this August.
The first thing is that my project for the Amigurumi Veggie and Fruit series are coming along great. Also, I started a new line of products called berryHaze. We'll have cozies, jewelry, tee-shirts, and other products that have a high degree of "kawaii-ness" (cuteness). Here are the two projects for the Amigurumi Veggie and Fruit series that I've finished recently.
The patterns and actual toys will be on sale at my etsy shop www.deebunny77.etsy.com
The second thing that I'm excited about is that after cleaning up Mike's computer (which I was using to do some graphic illustrations a while back), I found some of of my drawings. I want to give many thanks to dearbarbz. She posted her illustrations on her blog and so I think I will do the same...
This first illustration is a 5x7 drawing....
As you can see, the illustration is quite small and the I've added a calendar on the top left hand corner of the drawing.
Since I was cleaning up like crazy on Friday and Saturday, I found these awesome magnets that my mum bought me when I visited her in San Francisco... I think I may start an amigurumi series on these as well...
I was going over my stash and found some Lily Sugar and Cream left over yarn. It gave me an idea of making a cozy for my iPod Touch since it ends up in my everyday bag. Despite the fact that the iTouch already has a protective case to it, I decided to make one for it for more protection.
I wasn't sure how the pattern was going to turn out, but I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted. It's a simple pattern, but I added my artistic flair to it....
My Favourite food...(makes any bad day at work better!)
It's so hot today and when it's hot, laziness creeps in. I decided to work on my laziness. I laid out in the backyard by the pool with a nice cold beverage I mixed together.
Backyard Bliss Easy Drink Recipe
Sierra Mist Soda
Hypnotiq
Frozen Berries
Ice
Combine all ingredients together in a glass, lightly stir.
To maximize full laziness, add a magazine, sunglasses and a lounge chair.
I love this application on my Macbook Pro. After compiling all of my underwater photos and video, I'm finally able to make a proper slideshow of all the best diving photos Mike and I have taken with his and my camera. There were so many photos to go through that it took half a day to figure out which ones I want in the movie. As I imported them into the iMovie application, I was surprised on how well it worked compared to the Nero application on Mike's Sony. I love owning an Apple computer again... so much easier than Windows.
Mike and I had dinner with one of our friends at the Melting Pot earlier tonight. It was a first time we're tried the restaurant and it was absolutely good. They start you off with hors d'douvres fondue composed of your choice of cheese that varied from Fiesta Cheese Fondue to Spinach & Artichoke Swiss. They serve the cheese with tortilla chips, green apple wedges, bread, and veggies. You get your choice of salad. And for the main course, you can pick from a variety of entrees and the cooking style. You can deep fry it or cook it in a broth. Mike and I cooked our meats in Mojo Style whilst Jan and Rick had theirs deep-fried. For dessert, you pick the type of chocolate you would like. I chose the Yin and Yang (Dark and White chocolate) and they serve it with rice krispies treats, cheese cake, bananas, marshmallows, etc. Our check ended up over $200 since we ordered 3 cocktails at $10.00 a piece. The price per person is about $50. It is a little expensive, but you get a lot of food and it is worth it. I was so full at the end of the meal.
Mike and I went camping (trailer camping) in Yosemite this weekend with our friends and their children. I was extremely happy that there isn't any mobile reception in the mountains of Yosemite, which meant, no annoying phone calls, checking of e-mail for any orders from the shop, etc. Unforunately, there is this little twelve year old girl (Mike's friend's daughter that comes with us so that she gets a break from her annoying siblings) who wanted to use my phone as soon as we get into the park since there's reception there. Call me old, but at twelve years old, I had no mobile phone. So, she begged and whined so she can check her answerphone for the messages that were there since her mobile couldn't access her answerphone. It was like she was expecting an important phone call. WHAT TWELVE YEAR OLD GIRL EXPECTS AN IMPORTANT PHONE CALL OR MESSAGE? She had already spoken to her mother, if there was an emergency, we would have known about it already. However, I like her enough and felt bad for her that I dug into my pack for my mobile. As I was pulling my mobile out, I hadn't realized that my favourite point and shoot camera was pulled out as well and fell on the floor of the bus. What's sad about the whole thing is that she hadn't said "I'm sorry that you lost your camera." As much as I like and love this kid, she's becoming the teenager that I refuse to and will not deal with... I won't even go mention her being a smart-arse after getting lost in the woods at night (without a flashlight, walkie talkie) by going off the trail and almost getting herself and three other kids killed. She's supposed to be smart, but she did a very stupid thing. I know I'm mean, but this is something I won't let her forget since she's going to be going on trips with us.
The Other Boleyn Girl
Philippa Gregory
Borrowed from Elizabeth G.
Synopsis: When Mary Boleyn comes to court as an innocent girl of 14, she catches the eye of Henry VIII. Dazzled by the king, Mary falls in love with both her golden prince and her growing role as unofficial queen. However, she soon realizes how much she is a pawn in her family's ambitious plot as the king's interest begins to wane and she is forced to step aside for her best friend and rival: her sister, Anne. Then Mary knows that she must defy her family and her king, and take her fate into her own hands.

Hazel's Review: I immensly enjoyed this novel. I always wanted to read the book but never had enough time. Sadly, I watched the movie before I've read the book. In any case, I loved the book better than the movie. It's a long read and unless the reader is into history and know some pieces of Tudor history would it be a good read. As I read the book, the more I despised Anne Boleyn for conspiring against her sister as well as the Queen of England. In the end, she deserved what she got. Although the book is well written, the author somewhat failed to give the characters the proper speech that of that time. It jumped from improper 20th century speech to 14th century speech and the character is written in first person's point of view. I do still highly recommend the novel to anyone.
