It was just last month that I purchased three pairs of shoes to match a few clothes that I've purchased online. For the last month, I felt I didn't have the need to buy any more shoes until I arrived at work this morning.
I was teaching Scuba at Sport Chalet for the whole day and upon my arrival, one my friends said, "All the clearance items are 50% off and we can use our employee discount. So basically, it's 75% off the clearance price."
Needless to say, Elizabeth and I rushed to the clearance section before the Scuba Staff meeting began. I picked up three pairs of shoes and three summer tops. Elizabeth and I kept going back whenever we had the chance. Even Mike bought four pairs of shoes, casual trousers, and of course, a button up shirt. None of us could pass up that deal.
When I got home, I carted my purchases upstairs to my room. As I emptied the shopping bag, I found that I have no room for the three new pairs of shoes in my large walk-in closet. What's sad about this picture is that I wanted to purchase some more shoes and a few more purses to match my new summer outfits despite the fact that there isn't much room in my closet already.
It's Black Friday. I think everyone in America knows that. Its the shopping day of the season where everyone gets to stand in line in the freezing cold of the morning after thanksgiving. They run, elbow people, and fight for the last item all for the sake of the sale. The first time I've done Black Friday was maybe five years ago. Mike and I woke up at 5:30 am and made our way to Circuit City to purchase some Christmas presents. I was pretty much appalled at the experience that I told myself not to do it again. Yet, last year, I stood in line for a chance to get DVDs for $3.95 and a thin, 7 megapixel camera for $120.
This year, the sale ads weren't as good as last years. Nothing really popped out that I had to stand in line in the freezing cold one hour before the crack of dawn. Yet, Mike pointed out the flat panel telly with the built in DVD player for only $218. Still, I wasn't going to stand in line for a telly, but a true shopaholic would have stood in line and bought something. Yes, Mike and I woke ourselves up at 4:00 am and drove to the nearest Target and stood in line. Not only did we buy a television, I bought some sweaters, bras, CDs, a gift for our nephew, a basketball.
The next stop was Staples. I wanted a 120gb hard drive since my laptop has a measly 60 gb. Mike purchased one earlier in the year for $100, but this hard drive was priced at $49.99. So, after dropping of our purchases at the house, we drove to the Staples which was only five minutes away from our house. I stood in lthe checkout que for over an hour trying to get the last of the hard drives, but alas, there wasn't any left when I pulled up to the que. The good news was, I can still purchase them for the same price, but it will be ordered and delivered to the store in two to three weeks. I could wait.
Just when we got home, I realised that I hadn't bought my mum a present. So, the next day, I asked a friend if she wanted to join me shopping for some craft items at Joann's fabrics. Yarn of course sealed the deal in having her join me. Just before meeting her at Joann's fabrics, I got a head start in shopping. I already made a visit to Best Buy to purchase a camera battery and to Ulta to purchase my mum's present and a lap desk.
My truck was filled to capacity. I've purchased bins to store some of my yarn, two skeins of Bernat Silk to make socks, a set of Size 6 DPNs to make the sock, and a dress form, which I have been wanting for the longest time after my mum had thrown mine away when I moved out of her house in San Francisco to Sacramento.
Claudia and I hit one more store and that was the Yarn Shoppe. The clerk asked us if we needed any help finding anything and I just told her that I brought my friend to let her loose in the store (Claudia's a yarnaholic). The clerk laughed and left us pretty much alone.
We finally ended our day having luch at BJs Brewhouse. When we parted ways, I've hit a few more stores. Circuit City to check out laptop skins and Game Crazy to purchase a game for my husband.
I tell you what, I love Black Fridays.
I am a yarn junkie. I say this because after Claudia told me about one of the yarn shops in her area is going out of business and that the yarn that I so admire would be 25% off, I quickly jumped in my car and met her there. Yes, I've become a yarn junkie.
After the Joann's Fabrics After Christmas Day Sale, my stash was still pretty miniscule. I can start a couple of projects and finish them. My stash would remain relatively low. But after today, my stash has gotten worse. Really, I hate sales, discounts, going out of business yarn shops. They have actually turned me into a yarn junkie
I have more yarn that if I unravelled everything, it would encompass the whole earth. Somehow I think, this will not be the end. I will continue to have more yarn. The stash would grow, but the projects won't.
I'm not a yarn junkie, but after seeing the prices at Joann's fabrics, I really couldn't pass it up. Lion Brand Fun Fur was only a dollar and there were other sale items too.
Since I've already spent quite a bit of money during the Christmas season, I know I shouldn't be shopping at all. But with my New Year's resolution of not shopping for a year, this will be my last shopping spree.
